What is a good response time for a monitor?
For gaming, aim for 1ms GtG or lower. OLED (0.03ms) is effectively instant, fast-IPS reaches 0.5–1ms, and good VA reaches about 1ms. A quoted "1ms MPRT" is a marketing figure and is not the same as the GtG pixel response that actually determines smearing.
Is 0.5ms or 1ms response time better?
0.5ms GtG is slightly faster, but the visible difference is small. Overshoot control and panel quality matter more than the headline number — a well-tuned 1ms IPS can look cleaner than a poorly tuned 0.5ms panel with inverse ghosting.
Do OLED monitors have lower response time than IPS?
Yes. OLED pixels switch in about 0.03ms versus 0.5–1ms for the best fast-IPS panels, so OLED has the lowest response time and the cleanest motion. Fast-IPS is the next best option and costs much less.
Does low response time matter if my refresh rate is low?
